Fernando Gonzalez


Fernando Francisco González Ciuffardi (Santiago, Chile, JUly 28, 1980) is a former Chilean tennis pro. He played professionally from 1999 to 2012 being his last tournament on Miami Masters 2013 to 31 years of age. His best position in the ATP ranking was Nº5 in January and may 2007.

Early
Fernando Gonzalez studied at the college De La Salle College and Terra Nova, shop where you graduated from Media Education in the commune of La Reina, Santiago, Chile. At 16 he returned to Chile to play as a junior, where upon arrival and during training, showed his great ability with the right, it was already becoming famous in junior tournaments, and great speed, which is the nickname of "Speedy Gonzalez" caricature of fast Mexican mouse. Years as junior (1996-1998)
Fernando Gonzalez had a successgful career as a youth to reach number one in the world after being crowned champion at Roland Garros in both singles and in doubles, defeating in the singles final the young Juan Carlo Ferrero. Also manages yo win the U.S Open doubles with her future teammate of great achievements, Nicolas Massu. Gonzalez tennis makes it's debut in Santiago Challenger losing to Argentina Martin ROdriguez 4-3, 3-6. Davis Cup
Gonzalez made his debut in the Davis Cup team in Chile in April 1998 against FRanco Squillari of Argentina with only 18 years old. He has participated in every Davis Cup series since then, being a fundamental pillar of Chile. In early 2009 Fernando announces his retirement from the team due to irreconcialable differences with the leaders of the early 2010 Federación, Fernando reenters the computer throught the intervention of President Michelle Bachelet, so he played the first round of World Group against Israel, wich won two points for helping Chile beat Israel for a total of 4-1. It has a total record of 31-13 (20-7 in singles and 11-6 in doubles). Together with Nicolas Massu have been the winningest duo in the history of Chile with a record of 9-4. The beast result achieved by the team as fernando has participated have been the quarter-finals in 2006, being defeated by the powerful U.S team by 2-3 and the quarter-finals before being defeated in 2010 the Czech Republic tram where he had to absent through injury.

Tennis
